truth be known i’m afraid to look inside and i don’t know where to start

i suppose i could tell them all the truth that there ain’t no secret code
truth be known it’s been such a long long time and i’m too far down the road

the good and bad of a life of hanging on
wins and losses all get blurred
it seemed to be so important way back when
now the lines are all obscured

i suppose i could start another round
of trying to find the reason why
truth be known there’s no reason to be found
so i’m not even going to try

there’s a child whose dreams are coming true
and one whose truth is told in dreams
truth be known they’re the reason that i breathe
and have been all my life it seems

i suppose i should count my blessings then
instead of banking on the past
truth be known time can turn wise men to fools
who think anything can last

so i wonder if there’s something i might say
that could lighten someone’s load
just a word or two to help them on their way
from someone too far down the road

ain’t it funny how things turn out in the end
how purpose redefines a man
i hope you understand, i need to hear you laugh
just to know that someone can
